There has been a significant increase within Swale of nuisance vehicles dangerously riding on pavements, on roads, across fields and play parks and whilst doing so, causing damage to land, putting other road users and pedestrians at risk along with being a danger to themselves and committing various road traffic offences.

It’s against the law in the UK to ride hoverboards, minibikes (or ‘mini motos’), motorised scooters such as GoPeds and e-scooters on both public roads and pavements. These kind of vehicles may only be used on private roads or land with the road or land-owner’s permission. The same applies to ‘trail’ bikes, three-wheeled bikes and quads unless they are displaying valid number plates, the rider has a drivers licence and they are insured to ride the bike. All other use in public, is illegal.

There have been some positive results locally in Swale with recent bike seizures and prosecutions taking place regarding the illegal use of off road bikes; however, we want to know who all these people are so we can educate parents around the use of these bikes and prosecute those committing offences. For that, we need your help and if you know names of people who own any of the above listed bikes or even a vehicle you believe they are using illegally; you can respond to this message anonymously giving details of those people. If we can then link and evidence these people to previous reports, we will investigate. For all others named, we will pay them a home visit and ensure an end to their anonymity. This is likely to reduce any future offending.
